Leeds transfer blow
It seems Leeds Uniteds efforts to seal a deal for transfer target Ibai Gómez is closing in on a return to Atlhletic Bilbao instead.
We failed with a summer approach for the winger, who previously played under Bielsa at Bilbao, according to reports.
And it has been suggested they were planning to make another move for the 29-year-old in the January transfer window.
But reports in Spain suggest Gomez is close to signing for Bilbao instead, for around £2.5milion.
“I don’t think that many players will come in,” he told LeedsLive. “And I couldn’t tell you if actually there’s a player who will come or not.
“If the club can get players who are better than the ones we already have and in the position where we suffered some injuries, for example Samuel Saiz left, Pablo [Hernandez] now plays as a playmaker and we need a winger.
“The injury of Jamal Blackman has not been covered by another player. These are the two positions that were solved at the beginning of the competition and now we’re trying to find an alternative to it.
“We can also say that, at the beginning of the season, Jack Clarke was not a possibility as a player, but now he is a real possibility.
“From what I know the position of the club is if we bring a player in, it has to be a player that improves the group.
Athletic Bilbao currently sit 18th in La Liga, so the firepower is definatley needed as they haven’t won a league game in their last 10 games. Their last win was against CD Leganés on the 20th August 2018 beating them 2 – 1.
